What is Link Cloaking and Why do I need to do it?

The idea is simple. If you went to my website and I wanted you to click on an outbound link, which would you rather click on? http://wheredoesthislinkgo.me/chjlg8%jhg6ghfyfhg5%5g4%4fg.html? Or http://redirectbacon.com/dogfood?

The whole idea behind cloaking your link is simply to give people clicking on your link a level of trust that the link isn’t going to cause them harm like getting a virus or being scammed in some way. This is especially helpful when you are cloaking affiliate links or links to other sites that have a sales page or some kind of lead caption. People want a sense of where they are going and that they will be safe going there. Using a redirect, especially a branded one with your own URL in it, decreases friction people feel clicking on your outbound links.

Now there is more to it of course. If you use a good link cloaking software there are also extra benefits to using a cloaked link like analytics that can help guide you to what’s working and what isn’t. In addition, with Redirect Bacon we also include split testing capabilities to really help you see which offers for a cloaked link do the best and make you the most money.

short URL

Why not just use a free service?

“A study in May 2012[20] showed that 61% of URL shorteners had shut down (614 of 1002). The most common cause cited was abuse by spammers.” This quote comes from Wikipedia.  That’s a bit more than half. Those aren’t the best odds. You also need to remember, if these companies are offering a “free” service, they still need to make some sort of money to keep it going. If not, how long can they really keep it going for?

But the biggest reason for not using free link cloaking services for me is that many company intra nets block free shortening services for fear of spammers, viruses and people shopping during working hours rather than working. How many sales do you get from people that are at work? A lot I bet. But not if you are using a free URL shortener.

Then there is this, “Some websites prevent short, redirected URLs from being posted. In 2009, the Twitter network replaced TinyURL with Bit.ly as its default shortener of links longer than twenty-six characters.[7] In April 2009, TinyURL was reported to be blocked in Saudi Arabia.[22] Yahoo! Answers blocks postings that contain TinyURLs and Wikipedia does not accept links by any URL shortening services in its articles.[23][24][25]”  Again, from Wikipedia.

So if you are just starting out and really strapped for cash, free services might be a way to start out, but I’d look into getting something more professional ASAP.

Why Redirect Bacon?

Honestly I think there are a number of reasons. But of course it is my software, so I am a bit biased. But I have used a lot of different affiliate link cloaking software, so I understand what is needed and why. So here are my thoughts on why I think Redirect Bacon is the very best Link Cloaking and Redirect software available online.

affiliate cloaking softwareFirst, it’s simple to use. When I designed the software, I really wanted the user to be able to quickly and easily do whatever they needed to do. So once you log into your user dashboard, you can create any type of redirect you want right from the homepage. Any other information like a listing all your redirects or checking your statistics are just one click from the top menu. All of the menu buttons are large, color coded and easy to navigate.

There are also a lot of useful features. Redirect Bacon offers 301 Redirects, 302 Redirects, Stealth Redirects, Promo Redirects and even Splash Pages. These are all options that can be really powerful when used correctly. You can follow the links if you’d like to learn more about what each does.

Redirect Bacon is a server based software, so you have total control of all your links from one convenient place. It’s super easy to install and you can install it on an unlimited number of domains you own. Personally, I just use one domain and cloak and redirect all of my links from there. This way if I am travelling or want to use my cell phone to change a link, it’s easily done from one place.

A very professional option we offer that most others don’t is allowing you to see the number of views to a page as well as clicks on a link. This way if you get 5 clicks on a link, you can check how many people actually saw the link to get a better idea if you need to change the content, or the offer just isn’t working. There are so many uses for this and one of the reasons I created this software.

Another reason for creating Redirect Bacon is that I wanted to start doing more spit testing. Split testing link campaigns can really make you more Split Testingmoney without needing more traffic. You might think you don’t need this option yet, but it’s great to already have it when you do rather than buying another product later down the road. You can read more about our link Split Testing option here.

Now all the Redirects, Split Testing and Link Cloaking capabilities in the world don’t mean much if you can’t track and analyze the results. So we have included awesome in depth analytics into Redirect Bacon. And we’ve included both numerical and visual data. With our color coded pie charts, a quick look at your stats can reveal a lot of information. Check out this post on why in depth analytics are so helpful.

And the last reason that I’ll write about here is Value. Seriously. I know it’s a buzz word, but check out some of our “competitors” and you’ll see most either lack functionality or are overpriced for even less options that we deliver.

I wanted to create the very best software but still keep it affordable. And that is exactly what I and my business partner Jake have done. And we accomplished this all “in house”. Meaning, we didn’t use any outsourcing for this software. Redirect Bacon is a partnership between myself, Bill Allen and my business partner Jake Morrison.  You can read more about us here.

Jake has had his own software development company for more than 15 years. And he currently has 20+ full time employees. Why does that matter? First it means that when we want to upgrade the software, we don’t need to pay an outsourcer like most other people with software do. That’s one of the biggest reasons most people don’t do updates. But we’ve already got a few lined up.

Second, if you run into any problems at all, we have a staff that can help you immediately. And there really isn’t anything these programmers can’t do. Wait until you see our next offering that lets you make money using video in a totally unique way. It’s almost finished and we are very excited about it.

So you don’t need to worry about anything going wrong or that you won’t be taken care of. We also have a support desk to help out. One thing we are offering that isn’t on the purchase form is we can install your software if you need it for an additional $5. This is just for those of you who find installing software on your server intimidating and scary. It really isn’t though:) Installing Redirect Bacon is super easy. You can see out 2 minute install here.

There is so many things I want to say to explain to you why Redirect Bacon is the most professional software out there right now and will always be, but this introduction is getting long. And I could go on for hours more. So I will stop here. One thing you should be aware of is that Redirect Bacon has a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee.

So if you really don’t feel Redirect Bacon completely rocks, just let me know and I’ll give you a refund, no questions asked. We also give you free upgrades and customer support for the life of your software, regardless of which version we have upgraded to. You will never be charged more for anything.

Redirect Bacon

The one thing I can’t promise though is the price. As we add more functionality we will probably also add to the price. So if you want to lock in the lowest price we will ever offer Redirect Bacon at, I suggest you get your copy now instead of waiting.

Still not sure if Redirect Bacon is for you? Leave us a question or comment below and I’ll try to answer you ASAP. Also, feel free to give us any ideas or feedback that will make Redirect Bacon better. If it is something we can include, we will. After all, this is your software.

I wish you all the success in the world!

Sincerely,
Bill Allen & Jake Morrison

  2. Damour says:

what are the licensing policy? will we be able to install the script on an unlimited domains?

    Thanks,

    Damour

  3. Geena says:

    HI,

Is it possible to see which url sent the traffic with this cloaking software?

    Regards, Geena

    • Bill Allen says:

      Hi Geena,

It depends on how you set it up. It doesn’t track IPs or anything like that. What you would need to do is create a seperate link for each traffic source. So for example, if you want to test how Facebook is doing, you can create a simple redirect and name it “Facebook Traffic” in your “notes”. No one sees whatever you write in the notes section you add to the link.

Create the link and then you can track the traffic from that link.

I hope that answers your question?

    Hi there

If I were to buy your software would you include installation in the price? My next query is to ask – If I am promoting various unrelated products would each affiliate link still pick up and display the main domain that Redirect Bacon is loaded onto? In other words lets say I’m promoting an Acne offer and Redirect bacon is loaded onto http://www.boar-hunting-in-oz.com, will the redirect to the Acne offer still display http://www.boar-hunting-in-oz.com to the visitor?

    • Hi Perry, sure, I can help out with the install for you. What hosting company are you using?

Where ever Redirect Bacon is installed, all links you use that will have the root domain, so yes, that will be the domain your affiliates would see. If you want the domain to always show when they are on ClickBank so there is no affiliate theft, you can do that to. Is that what you mean?

Or if you don’t want people to see that domain, then you might think about getting a domain just for Redirect Bacon. Something like, checkthisout.com, or some kind of generic domain.

Also, if you chose to install Redirect Bacon on its own domain and not a domain that already has a blog or website on it, you can just use a cheap domain like a .info domain. So there should be some decent ones still available. If you’re in the ACNE niche, then grab something like myacnesecrets.info for a few bucks.

      Hope this helps?

  5. I should add a PS to the above comment, I will NOT touch anything that isn’t a cPanel hosting account. No GoDaddy hosting nor Fat Cow. Just far too many problems working with those servers. I stay away from them, far away. I suggest you do the same. Here’s a link to the best hosting I have ever used, and I’ve used upwards of 30 different ones. http://redirectbacon.info/IMH

  6. Perry Keenan says:

    Thanks for the advice.

I will certainly be getting a generic .info so that I can put all my links through the one domain. I’m sorted with hosting at Namecheap (CPanel). It seems JVZoo have an issue at the moment. PayPal said I should try a little later.

  7. Perry Keenan says:

    Bill,
Thank you so much for a top-drawer product. This is everything I have been looking for and more when it comes to link cloaking software. I finally have peace of mind knowing my links are safe and so easy to redirect from one location – Brilliant! Loving the split testing capability too.

Oh, and thanks again for your fast support with my installation issue.

    Regards

    Perry
